i was at a restaurant tonight that had a full wall of black velvet on white wallpaper, and it reminded me of my grandparents' old house.  "the red room" had the same wallpaper, but in red.  i think my condo would gain some great character if i found a way to incorporate this.  it's this or the veruca salt video-inspired red sequined wall.
